Description

The Assertiveness Pocketbook

by Max A. Eggert

Synopsis

This text looks at the reasons for non-assertive behaviour and the differences between assertive, aggressive and passive behaviour. It contains advice on how to overcome self-defeating beliefs and how to deal with recurring problems.

Quote: If you find people walk all over you, or if you walk all over other people, and want to change you'll find this book to be really practical. Actually, it's not really a "book" in the sense of a "read", more of a pocket reference with bullet-point "tips" on how to be assertive with people. Nothing particularly new in the information it presents, but laid out in an easy-to-read manner. And it works!

I am a corporate trainer, coach and consultant and I often recommend books to my coachees to read. As usual, the Pocketbook series comes up trumps. The text is clear and easy to read. The layout is "reader-friendly", helped by fun cartoon illustrations. The book provides a simple but comprehensive introduction to Assertiveness and is a "must" as a first read in this subject, particularly for those who are short on reading time or inclination! I often follow this book up with "Assertiveness at Work" by Ken and Kate Back, if my coachee wishes/needs to explore further.
